For me, as a probably accurately accused control freak, I would agree with Donald. One of my greatest fears in life is to "make the wrong decision". I want so badly to do what God wants that when he leaves certain endings unwritten I almost feel suffocated in the freedom. I would much prefer that God send some message on Heaven letterhead saying, "This is my plan for you, this is what you can do to make me happy and be my good and faithful servant". I'm often thankful for the freedom down the road when I see the lessons I have learned from my decisions, however in the moment, having undefined plans can be the scariest thing in the world for me.
I just came across this verse a few days ago and it seems to tie in
Ps 40:5
Many, O LORD my God,
are the wonders you have done.
The things you planned for us
no one can recount to you;
were I to speak and tell of them,
they would be too many to declare.
NIV
The things God planned for us are wonderful and good. He wrote good parts for us. We are characters he created to find love and fulfillment.
But what about the bad things that happen? Did God write those into the story also? I think not. Although God can and will bring good out of them, they are not good in themselves and they have another source. Powerful evil forces are at work to mess up the story that God intended to tell.
